Our NC legislation is considering bill House Bill  5 (HB 5) which would make us a Constitutional Carry state.  That would me you will no longer be required to apply for and receive a Concealed Carry Permit in order to carry concealed in NC.  If you wanted to conceal carry outside NC you would still need a Permit.

PLEASE contact our legislators and express your support for this bill!

Currently the bill is “in committee.”  We all need to contact (clicking will open and populate an email for you):  Speaker Destin Hall, Rules Committee Chair John Bell, and House Majority Leader Brendan Jones. Urge them to push this bill through committee to the floor.  Further, once the bill makes it to the floor please contact your respective legislators and urge them to pass HB 5!

Unfortunately, county zoning precludes my my performing “retail sales” from my home, where my business resides.   Thus to complete a local “sale” I have to transfer the firearm to another FFL dealer first - it’s not as complicated as it sounds.

Here are the latest political 2nd Amendment changes

Partially great news.  The President’s “Big Beautiful Spending Bill” that has been signed into law has repealed the $200.00 tax on short barreled rifles, other firearms, and suppressors effective 1/1/2026.  However, the Gun Owner’s Of America (GOA) organization is suing the federal government, challenging  the National Firearms act (1934)  that initially imposed the $200.00 tax stamp requirement.  Their challenge is based upon the original law’s being accepted by Supreme Court challenges in the 1920’s that were unsuccessful because the Supreme Court ruled the law Constitutional because it was a “tax” and not an imposition on the 2nd Amendment.  Given the tax has been removed, there is no longer any Constitutional basis for the remaining portions of the law.  Hopefully the suit will win and the 2nd amendment will be one step closer to being “true.”  Consider joining the Gun Owner’s Of America (GOA) to financially support the effort and protect your constitutionally protected “right to bear arms.”

Potential BIG changes coming, if YOU will contact your representative/senator at the state/federal level as appropriate:

1.  SB-50 Passed both houses of our state legislature.As expected our Democratic Governor Stein vetoed the bill.  Since then the Senate has voted to overturn the veto but both houses have to approve the measure.  The House Republican leadership has currently placed a vote on “hold” until they get at least two more Representatives to say they will vote yes, giving a majority to ensure passage.  Please contact your state Representative and urge them to vote to overturn the governor’s veto, and we will become a “Constitutional Carry State!”  That would mean no more requirement to have a concealed carry permit to concealed carry in NC (you would still need one if you intend to Concealed Carry across state lines).

2. Congress: - A bill to make Constitutional Carry States acknowledged across state lines.  If we become a Constitutional Carry state, AND this bill passes, you would not need a Concealed Carry Permit when crossing into Virginia or other states.

My suggestion:  Also tell your NC State Rep/Senator to make it mandatory that shooting ranges owned by counties for use by sheriff departments for training be made public ranges for at least 3/4 of every month.  We are paying for those ranges.   They sit idle at the VERY least 75% of the time.  Let’s put them to our use!  Virginia used to have a law requiring every county to provide a public shooting range.  What do you think?  Maybe our legislators should hear we want public ranges in all our counties!

GREAT NEWS - The Supreme Count has ruled the ATF overstepped its legal authority in classifying bump-stocks as machine guns.  The court wrote a scathing admonition to the ATF.  So start looking for your new bump stock!

AND, in January, the 5th Circuit of the Federal Court struck down the prohibition prohibiting 18-20 year olds from purchasing hand guns.  Doesn’t mean an 18-20 year old in North Carolina can purchase a hand gun - yet.  The change only currently applies to the area of the 5th Circuit, Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana.  However, we can expect it to become a nation-wide recension of the law - meaning, soon, any 18-20 year old will be able to purchase a handgun.  Stay tuned!
